I’m So Excited!

The majority of dog behavior cases normally come down to dogs who are UNDERstimulated. This means a dog with little to no exercise, no job and little activity that stimulates the brain of the dog. But it is also possible to OVERstimulate your dog. In these situations, you can find yourself dealing with dangerous behaviors as well, such as aggression.

Many things can lead to overstimulation of your dog. Each dog is different in this area, and it depends on the events that make your dog excited. Too much of something that builds a high level of excitement is what usually leads to overstimulation. Some of the signs of overstimulation include:

*heavy breathing and tongue out (strong pant) going into that activity

*pulling on the leash during that activity only

*excessive barking during that activity

Knowing how to respond to overstimulation is vital in not only stopping the behavior but also preventing it from escalating into things like aggression.
