Train the Trainer?

This week’s blog question is another good one…why is my dog sooo good for the trainer and sooo bad for me.  There could be lots of reasons for this but many of them have to do with your trainer and not you…I finally said it, it’s not always the dog owner’s fault!  Let’s discuss.

First things first, where are you getting your dog trained?  Many times, this complaint will come from people who use these so-called training camps, and the “trainer” will post pictures and videos of how good Fluffy did on their trip to some random dept store.  If you are considering getting your dog trained this way, you should strongly reconsider.

Why is the trainer going places with your dog and leaving you at home?  Do you let your kids randomly wander with people you hardly know?

Furthermore, is the trainer even visiting places you will ever visit with your dog?

I say this ALL THE TIME at my in-home lessons, it doesn’t matter how great the dog is for me, it matters how great the dog is for YOU, the owner.  A great trainer will help the human and the dog, not just the dog.  If your trainer is not hyper focused on this part, you’re not really getting a trainer…

Here’s the other issue with this, do you really want a random trainer cruising around with your dog in their car?  Are you sure they are good drivers?  Are you sure they follow the necessary precautions when hauling a live animal around?  Who is at fault if they get into an accident with your dog in the car?

The bottom line is having random trainers gallivanting around with your dog is never a great idea and from a training perspective it will be a complete disaster for you.

The good news is your local Always Faithful Dog Trainer will NEVER train your dog in such a way.  We will always have you fully involved in the training and our goal is to make sure the dog is as good for you as it will be for us.
